With two events in Michigan next year who wants to put a car together? I hear a $500 car turns into $2000+ per driver after all the safety equipment and tires and such. Looks like a blast though so I'm just seeing who's interested. Christian 108 F125
I really want to do this bad! Unfortunately the cost just don't seem realistic for my budget. I'd have to drop Solo for the season. '04 Ion Redline, "It'll bust your crank and leave skid marks on your soul!" #37 SMF
damn... where were all you guys last year when I was looking for people? 85' Mazda RX7 - FP #192 07' Ford Mustang - ESP #56/156 04' Chevy Colorado - PR #29
I went to the last race ( Oct 24 HoustonTX ) They talk really tough about the $500 rule but it doesn't look like they enforce it. There was a Mini running, new style not old. I'm guessing that the engine out of a wrecked Mini is worth more than $500. I'm thinking that at Gingerman a reliable car might be way to go, the MSR track in TX is a Country Club set up so there are a number of good straights, the better to wind out your hot car on. The high powered cars ( mostly Mustangs and RX-7s ) really passed a lot of cars on the straights. 130 cars started the race, there were about 60 running after 4 hours or so.
The bribery really gets you some leeway on the $500. Some hard liquor, dirty magazines in the engine bay seem to go a long way. Plus, if they still value you over $500, you get a one lap penalty for every $10 over. Rule #1 is that Jay and judges make the rules. If you get that through your head, you'll have fun - and get tons of seat time. 1999 ESP Camaro Z28 #190 Street Or Track Link
A group of us from NeOhio Region put together an A3 VW Jetta for the 2008 Toledo Speedway race. We finished second overall (and won the "Dangerous Banned Technology" award) just by running conservatively and avoiding penalties at all cost.
This year (Nelson Ledges - very fast track), the VW was a slug, and a couple of our drivers got cocky (at their home track) and got spanked in the penalty box. We also ran a roach of a Porsche 944 that had some mechanical issues during the race.
We'll probably run one of the Gingerman races in 2010.
Build for reliability instead of speed. Perpetual forward motion (not necessarily fast) and a complete absence of body contact are keys to lots of seat time and top finishes.
LeMons is huge fun if you have the right attitude.
I'm interested too. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Kevin J. Robinet Thompson Racing Fabrication Link ZTuner.com Link Suburban Nissan Link
I got a phone call over the weekend, but I'm not saying from who! "First time in 2 years that SOB beat me! I still don't know how he did it. In fact, Burns doesn't know how he did it. We rode with each other on each of our runs, and we STILL don't know how he did it." Cheater-Pants 11/5/07

Nice, if no one ends up wanting to build a car I'm in. So who's got ideas, or cars in mind or an open garage space? I can probably clear out my third stall if nothing else.
I've been seeing a lot of good stuff on Craigslist recently, including a beater Miata (I know, I know) but you can just buy everything you would ever need (cage, fire suppesion and the lot) due to the spec class.
Also, I love stipping every possible pound out of cars and was thinking of some crazy stuff like active aero components using the window regulator motors for fun. 108 F125
